INITIATIVES for PHILANTHROPY
ISB donors can help revolutionize science and invent the future through--
Gifts to the P4 Fund that maintain our overall capabilities for research, enabling ISB to respond quickly to new opportunities advancing biomedical discovery and P4 Medicine .
Focused gifts that allow donors to identify and support specific research and operations at ISB and are generally expended for current needs of the research or program. Gift opportunities include--
-
New Faculty. Our faculty is growing to approximately 25 members, who will provide the required skills and interests to pursue systems problems broadly and maintain the interactions essential to ISB's creativity. Each faculty appointment requires a new laboratory, building a research team and sustaining necessary equipment and technologies. These provide for major philanthropic investments in the future success and discoveries of our new researchers.
-
Science Education. ISB's Center for Inquiry Science (CIS) is transforming science education for K-12 students, the young people who will shape America's future. More than 1,500 teachers and 40,000 students in all grades are benefitting from CIS programs, which are models for the state and the nation. Through donor support, CIS can continue to educate teachers about inquiry-based science methods and ultimately help thousands of children learn inquire-based thinking. They can also promote systemic reform of school districts so that quality science education is available to all children, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.
-
Global Medicine. Individual health assessment, disease diagnosis, therapy selection and vaccine development are hampered in the developing world by our inability to perform accurate health measurements. These tasks require expensive, complex machines and procedures run by highly skilled operators.
Donors help ISB researchers develop diagnostic tools that employ new nanotechnology and microfluidics technologies. Extremely affordable in developing economies, these can provide a multi-parameter blood analysis as a window into health and disease. Combined with ISB's expertise in immunology and infectious diseases, they will enable the Institute to be a leader in global medicine.
Endowed gifts invested by ISB provide annual income to advance research and development in perpetuity. At the donor's discretion, endowed funds can provide unrestricted income for general support or focused income to support designated faculty, research and facilities. Named endowed gifts allow permanent commemoration of a donor's philanthropy and vision.
