ISB RATED A TOP WORK ENVIRONMENT FOR POSTDOCS
Early this year Thompson Scientific identified ISB as having the sixth highest impact in the global scientific community, based on the number of times other scientists have cited research papers published by ISB's scientific investigators.
Now The Scientist has identified ISB as one of the top 15 work environments (13th to be precise) for Post Doctoral scientists in the US.
"Postdocs are the lifeblood of science and of ISB," said John Aitchison, the Institute's associate director. "We are very proud of the collegial, collaborative, challenging and rewarding environment that we've all worked together to create.
"Our ability to recruit researchers who can help us stay at the leading edge of science and drive systems biology is critically dependent on our ability to maintain and enhance a great work environment," Aitchson said.
ISB rated above the 80th percentile in all of the following categories:
  • Balance of family and personal life
  • Benefits
  • Equity
  • Funding
  • Quality of communication
  • Compensation
  • Value of Postdoc experience
  • Networking
As part of the survey ISB Postdocs were asked whether they agreed with the following statements. The percentages represent affirmative answers.
  • People from other countries are treated fairly and equitable
  • Benefits and retirement are adequate
  • My PI understands my family obligations
  • I have adequate funding to conduct my research
  • Males and females are treated equally
  • I have learned much from my PI
  • The bureaucracy is transparent and easy to navigate
  • My research work and contributions are valued by my supervisor
